Campus design & making resources

Want to access design and making technology like SOLIDWORKS, 3D printers, or laser scanners?

Many of the designing and making spaces on campus are listed below!

(If you have a resource to share that's not listed, please contact bushra@arizona.edu to get it added!)

Engineering Design Center

The Engineering Design Center (EDC) is a new workspace open to all UArizona students with many great resources relevant for engineering, like fabrication equipment, lots of tools, electronics equipment, and flexible work space. The EDC is just off campus, located on the second story of Campus Christian at: 715 N. Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719.

The space is open 24/7 if you have CatCard access. To start using the space, stop by Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a General Tour with a staff member, who can help you get CatCard access setup.

CATalyst Studios

This makerspace is located in the UArizona Main Library on the main floor and is open to all UArizona students (just swipe your catcard to get into the space).

CATalyst has a lot of making equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers and electronics equipment to sewing machines and vinyl cutters, and lots of open spaces for you to work on projects. You an also attend events and workshops to learn new maker skills, like 3D modeling and sewing.

Be sure to check out the hours before going--they tend to be open in the afternoon and evenings.

Other fabrication spaces on campus

The EDC has compiled a great list of different spaces around campus, organized by space and by types of equipment (e.g., electronics equipment). Check it out here.

Engineering software

You can access many different engineering software packages on campus without having to install anything.

You can use OSCR computers with software already installed--just search this website to find a computer lab with the software you need.

You can also use VCAT, the virtual computing system for students that is accessible from anywhere. Go to vcat.arizona.edu and log in with your UArizona NetID and password.
