Fundamentals of soldering badge

The Fundamentals of Soldering badge demonstrates that you have the basic skills needed to solder electronic components in the design spaces and makerspaces at UArizona.

To earn the Fundamentals of Soldering badge, you will need to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Complete hands-on training on how to solder.
  • Safely solder multiple components together using a soldering iron.

For details of how to meet these criteria and earn your badge, see below.

Sign up and attend a hands-on Soldering Workshop at the EDC. This 2-hr workshop will teach you how solder LEDs, resistors, capacitors, and potentiometers onto a PCB board. To register for an upcoming workshop, click here.

  • Note: you must have completed a General Tour before signing up for this workshop--see the EDC's website for details about the tour.
  • If there isn't a time listed that you can attend, you can fill out this survey to share your availability so they can schedule another workshop.

The next step is to use your knowledge of soldering to complete an independent project, like soldering components for the Solar Tracker project. You can use soldiering equipment at the EDC, CATalyst Studios, or other locations with soldering equipment. Once your finished, submit a picture of the components you've soldered with a 3-5 sentence description of what the project is to this submission folder. Be sure to name your image with the following naming convention: LastName_FirstName_BadgeName_ENGR102bInstructorLastName.jpg (for example Doe_Jane_FundamentalsSolder_Salazar.jpg).

Once you've completed all necessary steps, you will be awarded your badge in your ENGR 102B D2L site. Badges will be awarded on the first of each month (e.g., Nov 1, Dec 1) and at the end of the semester. If you don't see your badge, please email bushra@arizona.edu for help.

See the Share badges page for information on adding your badge to your resume and LinkedIn.
