Fundamentals of vinyl cutting badge

The Fundamentals of Vinyl Cutting badge demonstrates that you have the basic skills needed to use vinyl cutters in the design spaces and makerspaces at UArizona.

To earn the Fundamentals of Vinyl Cutting badge, you will need to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Complete theoretical and hands-on training to set up a vinyl cutter.
  • Choose a design and prepare it for vinyl cutting.
  • Setup and complete a project on the vinyl cutter.

For details of how to meet these criteria and earn your badge, see below.

Sign up for a hands-on training at CATalyst studios on vinyl cutting. For upcoming training sessions, see CATalyst's training schedule.

For this step, you will need to select a design to cut using the vinyl cutter. You can choose a file you create yourself, or something you find from an online repository or tutorial. Next, head to the makerspace of your choice and utilize a vinyl cutter to create your design. You can use any material you choose that's allowed per makerspace guidance. Then, submit a short report of the project you created including the following information:

  • Description of the design you created and details of how it was created (e.g., drawn by you, downloaded from website, etc)
  • Approximately 2 pictures of your designs

Upload your report as a PDF to this submission folder. Be sure to name your PDF with the following naming convention: LastName_FirstName_BadgeName_ENGR102bInstructorLastName.pdf (for example Doe_Jane_FundamentalsVinyl_Salazar.pdf).

Once you've completed all necessary steps, you will be awarded your badge in your ENGR 102B D2L site. Badges will be awarded on the first of each month (e.g., Nov 1, Dec 1) and at the end of the semester. If you don't see your badge, please email bushra@arizona.edu for help.

See the Share badges page for information on adding your badge to your resume and LinkedIn.
